Wolfgang Nieblich

Auf Beton II

In 2013, artist Wolfgang Nieblich marked eight concrete blocks on Pfalzburger Street with quotes from Einstein to Adorno. For the second installment, Nieblich marked 24 concrete blocks at Werderscher Markt running along the canal and down to Unter den Linden. Both subprojects received ample press coverage (16 articles). Another 33 concrete blocks on the Museuminsel and in front of the Alte Nationalgalerie have been marked since June 18, 2014. A book on the first installment, titled "Auf Beton", was published by PalmArtPress in 2013. "Auf Beton II" is an expanded edition containing all inscriptions on a total of 65 concrete blocks, newspaper articles, and a foreword by Prof. Dietger Pforte and Prof. Claus Baldus.

For Wolfgang Nieblich the discourse with the material, form, structure, production, intellectual content, function, and versatile usage of books is the core of his artistic expression- and that with impressive complexity.  Through his dialectic search for symbolic reference, formal pleasure of experimenting, and multi-leveled, interchangeable associations between the different dimensions of books find expression.
