Matthias Buth was born in Wuppertal-Elberfeld. He is a poet and essayist. He published the poetry collection No. 344 in the series "Poesiealbum" in 2018. He published "Dichter dulden keine Diktatoren neben sich" together with Günter Kunert in 2013, a book for the 80th birthday of Reiner Kunze. Numerous poetry and prose volumes were published and translated into other languages as well as set to music in chamber music and choirs, for example by Abel Ehrlich (Tel Aviv) and Thomas Blomenkamp and Bernd Häschke. He is a member of the Association of German Writers and the PEN Center Germany. Buth belongs to the long line of poet lawyers, he was legal advisor of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media until the end of 2016 and afterwards worked as a lawyer.
